Italian Food #3: Lasagna

Italy is famous for lot of things: fashion, women, architecture, history and also food! Especially food is something that the world envies us, tries to replicate and loves. In this post i want to celebrate one of my most loved dishes: lasagna.

Lasagna is everything i want from a dish: it’s a lot to eat, there are just very few ingredients, it’s delicious and very full-bodied. I love pasta because it’s simple, i love pizza because it’s fast to prepare, but i love lasagna because it’s delicious.

In my house, but i think in lot of other italian houses, lasagna IS THE SUNDAY DISH. We don’t eat it every single sunday, but when someone says something about lasagna, we italians know that we are talking about Sunday. Why is lasagna a sunday dish? Well, first because it’s a wonderful way to celebrate Sunday, second because it’s very long to cook, because you have to cook the bolognese sauce and the bechamel, second because you need to prepare the pasta, third because you have to put all together and fourth because you need 35 minutes in ofen. This is not a dish you can cook during the week, when you have to work all day long.

It’s a dish for more than just a family of four. We are a family of four(my mom, my dad, my sister and myself) and my mom cooks always for eight people, not because she wants to, but because at the end lasagna will become a dish for lot of people, because the quantity are pretty big…and since lasagna is so delicious, we eat it the next day, so we don’t have to think of what we want eat Monday at lunch..

What do you need to cook it? Oh, well…you need the right ingredient, a big stomach, time to enjoy every single bite and comfortable sofa after the sunday lunch. What are the right ingredients?

250 g Lasagne secche (oppure 500 g fresche), 100 g Parmigiano reggiano, bolognese sauce, béchamel…and only to prepare the bolognese sauce you need 2 hours, so we perare it the day before. Do you get now why it’s a sunday dish?

The preparation is pretty easy actually. it’s like building a wall: you have lasagna istead of bricks, bechamel and bolognese sauce instead of cement mortar. This is however, how to creat that masterpiece:

Put a layer of béchamel on the base of the pan and make a layer of lasagna (fresh or dried). Cover the lasagna with meat sauce and a few spoonfuls of bechamel, add a sprinkling of grated Parmesan cheese and put another layer of lasagna. Continue like this alternating lasagna, béchamel and meat sauce until you have used up all the ingredients. Finish with a layer of meat sauce and béchamel and plenty of grated Parmesan. Cook the lasagna Bolognese in a preheated oven at 200 ° for about 35 minutes. Take the lasagna with meat sauce out of the oven and wait about 10 minutes before cutting them.

There is no need to say more about this beauty of Italian cuisine. The only thing I can tell you right now is to try and taste for yourself how perfect and delicious a dish can be! You can thank me later…and lose weight later!

Buon Appetito!
