How does The Perfect Career Look like?

Once we start the very first job, after years of learning to get the highest graduation possible, we have lots of dream, expectation and hopes for our lives. Some of us what to have a financial stability, others want to live on the top and other want to become the “next big thing!” However, i was wondering: is there a “standard” career for everybody?

My answers is “yes”, there’s a standard career for everyone. It’s doesn’t matter where you live, who you are and where you work, your career will be exactly the same of every single person in this planet. “How is it even possible that a doctor and a backer have the same career?” you are asking yourselves. Trust me, it’s the same. The key is not to think about the job, but about the work career itself.

The question here is the following: what’s the definition of career? Thank to Wikipedia, i will quote you what’s the definition of the word:

The Oxford English Dictionary defines the word “career” as a person’s “course or progress through life (or a distinct portion of life)”. This definition relates “career” to a range of aspects of an individual’s life, learning, and work. “Career” is also frequently understood to relate to the working aspects of an individual’s life – as in “career woman”, for example. A third way in which the term “career” is used describes an occupation or a profession that usually involves special training or formal education,;considered to be a person’s lifework. In this case “a career” is seenas a sequence of related jobs, usually pursued within a single industry or sector: one can speak for example of “a career in education”, of “a criminal career” or of “a career in the building trade”. A career has been defined by organizational behavior researchers as “an individual’s work-related and other relevant experiences, both inside and outside of organizations, that form a unique pattern over the individual’s life span.”

If we really want to follow this definition, career is the results to all the experience and learning processes someone has to get throght during the life. It doesn’t matter if you are a backer or a doctor, you had to get throught learning process and hard work to achieve what you wanted to achieve. That’s it. So, We all have a career.

The question now was not “how does a career look like?”, but “how does a PERFECT career look like?” The perfect career…Well, in the defition i quoted something misses, probably the most important part: the goal and the timing. Once we start our career, we have a goal in mind to achieve in a certain time. It’s absolutely irrelevant right now what goal, the point is that we start and we want to go somewhere with our effort, am i right?

For me, the perfect career is the career that will help you to achieve your goal in the time you planned. I mean, it’s also pretty obvious: if you miss the goal or the timing, how can you say that your career is perfect? Perfection is when nothing misses and everything is in the right place at the right time. If one of the two things (goal or timing) misses, it’s not a perfect career…it might be a successful career, full or achievement, awards, personal satisfaction and tons of money, don’t get me wrong, but it won’t be perfect, because either you maybe miss the goal or you reached it too late.

That’s been said, every single one of us is able to make career and achieve the perfect career. The problem is how high you want to go and how fast you want to get there, because the higher and the faster you want to go, the bigger are the chances to fall down. The trick here is to play conservative: take a low target to achieve in the long terms…so what comes beyond your original goal is an additional success. It doesn’t make sense to try to reach the stars in few days and then realise that it was an impossible task since the very beginning.

Everyone can have a perfect career, the point is if you are ready to be satisfied with low goals!

See ya
